A man was arrested for disrupting a Shabbat service using antisemitic language towards synagogue-goers in Sunny Isles Beach, officials said. According to officials, Yudel Antonio Herrero, 47, stood outside King David Chabad and used a shofar (ram’s horn) to disrupt the worshipers’ prayers on Saturday. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and Sunny Isles Beach Police Chief Edward Santiago made the announcement Monday. “There is no place in our community, or any community, for those who revel in spouting hate,” said Fernandez Rundle. “Individuals who feel that they have license to desecrate the religious ceremonies and sentiments of Shabbat services and to desecrate the Holiday of Sukkot are in for a surprise. Neither my prosecutors, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department nor the law enforcement community of Miami-Dade County will allow that to happen.”Herrero has been charged with disturbing a school or religious assembly.“Th...Truck rollovers on Turnpike in Miramar; no injuries reported

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins still have work to do if they want to be the team to beat in the AFC.They’ve shown this season that they can blow out teams and win close games, but they haven’t gotten past the division-rival Buffalo Bills, who have won the AFC East the past three seasons.Buffalo handed the Dolphins (3-1) their first loss of the season Sunday in a 48-20 defeat that kept Miami from taking the lead in the division and exposed weaknesses that either weren’t there in Miami’s first three games or were hidden by its offensive firepower. The Dolphins had outscored their opponents 130-71 and averaged 550 yards in the first three games of the season, but that high-powered offense was uneven Sunday both because of a tough Bills defensive front and because of self-inflicted wounds.A number of pre-snap penalties stalled momentum. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said he needs to be better at communicating in the huddle, but coach Mike McDaniel said...Family hears late son’s heartbeat in emotional heart transplant reunion

SAN DIEGO, California (KGTV) — A San Diego family is hearing their son’s heartbeat for the first time since he died in a single-car crash last August.Harley Duffer was nervous as he walked up Imperial Avenue in Logan Heights with his wife, Justine. Pushing his two-year-old daughter in a stroller, he breathed heavier. The Duffers live in Arizona but spent the weekend celebrating their daughter’s birthday in San Diego. Their trip to SeaWorld, however, will not be the most memorable part of the trip.As he turned into the front gate of the Future Achievers Preschool, his new family was waiting for him.Lesley Nurse stood with her arms open, then clinched tightly to Duffer. The two cried as she said “Oh my gosh.”“It’s good to meet you too,” Duffer replied, fighting back tears.Nurse recognized Duffer’s heartbeat.“It’s so so strong,” she says. It’s not a heart he’s always had; it’s Nurse’s son̵...‘It’s a survival issue’: Ukraine looks to arm itself as Western support slips

In a hotel conference room in Kyiv late last week, Ukrainian leaders huddled with hundreds of defense industry officials and policymakers from allied countries. The message was clear: Ukraine is open for business.Despite the specter of Russian missile fire in the Ukrainian capital, the International Industries Defense Forum was eerily similar to the panel-laden conferences that pop up many times a year in Washington and London. But the stakes were different for this one, as Ukraine finds its supporters running out of weapons to send while others are increasingly wary of committing more money to the conflict. With the charm offensive directed at weapons-makers around the world, the country is effectively trying to take matters into its own hands.“It’s a survival issue,” said Pavel Verkhniatskyi, managing partner at COSA Intelligence Solutions in Kyiv, since there is only so long Ukraine can expect to rely on donations from partners whose support can be switched off with a single elect...Trump blasts judge during first day of $250 million fraud trial

NEW YORK — Donald Trump came face-to-face in a Manhattan court Monday with the attorney general who is suing him for massive business fraud and the judge who last week revoked his business licenses, as the former president attended the first day of a $250 million civil trial.A scowl on his face as he entered the courtroom, Trump showed up to see opening statements in the trial. New York Attorney General Tish James alleges that Trump, his adult sons, his companies and some of his business associates, fraudulently inflated Trump’s net worth in order to obtain favorable terms from banks and insurance companies.During a midday lunch break, Trump derided Justice Arthur Engoron, the state court judge overseeing the case. Engoron will decide the outcome of the trial, since it is a bench trial, meaning there is no jury.“This is a judge that should be disbarred. This is a judge that should be out of office. This is a judge that some people say could be charged criminally for what h...Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield remembered for contributions on and off the field

As tributes pour in for all-star Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, the star is being remembered for his contributions both on and off the field. Wakefield, who spent nearly 30 years with the Red Sox organization, died over the weekend. On Monday, Red Sox officials remembered Wakefield at their end of season press conference. “Great person, great husband, great dad, great player — let’s not forget about that,” said Red Sox Manager Alex Cora. Cora said Wakefield was a great teammate, adding “he was huge in the community.” “We always talk about hall of fame people who are good on the field but they’re better off the field,” Cora said. “This guy, he represented us with dignity.” In addition to his playing success, Wakefield served as the Red Sox’s first Jimmy Fund co-captain, spending countless hours during his playing days and after his retirement supporting cancer patients. Wakefield served as Jimmy Fund co-captain alongside co-captain Clay Buchholz. In one...Aug-Tober?

Today was nice, but it’s about to get a lot warmer! The next couple of days will feel more like August than October. We had all sorts of sunshine today with a little slice of mild air sitting over New England. But not too far west the heat is building… and has been for a couple of days. Saturday, Minneapolis had a high temperature of 88°, Sunday 92°, and back near 90° again today. In fact, the Twin Cities Marathon was canceled over the weekend due to the heat, not something you’d picture in October. That warm air will surge into New England the next couple of days.Tomorrow many towns will head to the 80s.But it’s not just the warmer temperatures that will make it feel like August, the humidity will rise too. Notice where the warm air is, there’s also a lot higher humidity. We again were comfortable today, but those higher dew points and the more muggy feel will return for the rest of the week. Now, it’s not going to be your mid summer humidity wit...Organizers hope to inspire next generation with banners honoring iconic Black women in Boston

History is on display in Boston via more than 200 banners featuring iconic Black women. Young students helped decide which women would be honored. With banners now in place along Blue Hill Avenue, program organizers say they hope to inspire the next generation to create their own legacy in the city. “I can see women of color that look like me being actually special in the neighborhood because, usually, there’s not that much representation of Black women,” said Meliah Nelson, a local eighth grade student. It was a special day for students at Mother Caroline Academy recently when they got to see the 212 banners.Honoring women who had an impact in Boston, the banners are part of a product called “Black Women Lead.” Collectively, the banners showcase women from a wide range of backgrounds and career paths.“You’ll see doctors, lawyers, judges, professors, your elected politicians,” said Ed Gaskin, the executive director of Greater Grove Hall Main Streets. ...Latest news
