Bruins lose Charlie McAvoy in lifeless 3-1 loss to Buffalo

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:07:46 GMT

Despite their gaudy record and spot atop the Atlantic Division, the Bruins are not a team that can show up to a game a half hour late and steal a win. They learned that lesson on Thursday night at the Garden, when the previously struggling Buffalo Sabres took it to the B’s for the first half of the game, protected their lead well and took home a well-deserved 3-1 victory. The Sabres, playing without top defenseman Rasmus Dahlin (lower body), scored a pair of goals in the second period, another in the third and that was good enough.Coach Jim Montgomery sensed a performance like this might be coming after Wednesday’s practice that he found lacking in pace and effort. It carried over.“We just didn’t have any energy or life to us. I’ve got to take responsibility for the lack of us having that. The preparation clearly wasn’t correct,” said Montgomery. “I expected us to get better every period. I think we went from awful to poor. We never real...

VANCOUVER — A British Columbia Supreme Court jury has retired to deliberate in the first-degree murder trial of Ibrahim Ali, more than eight months after he pleaded not guilty to killing a 13-year-old girl in a Metro Vancouver park in 2017.The judge’s instructions to the jury on Thursday had been delayed, after Ali’s lawyer Kevin McCullough told the court the defence team had received death threats over the case.In remarks that can only now be reported with the jury sequestered, McCullough on Tuesday read out a message that said his family faced “a violent and brutal death” before Christmas.McCullough was unable to attend court in person the next day because he was at home in Victoria due to the threats, forcing the instruction of the jury to be postponed until Thursday. Justice Lance Bernard told the jurors the Crown’s case is circumstantial, requiring them to infer as the only reasonable conclusion that Ali forced the girl off a path and into a wooded area ...

Dangers linger at abandoned Workhouse jail, city mulls future plans

ST. LOUIS - Last week, FOX 2 exposed dangers at the former St. Louis Medium Security Institution (MSI) Jail, also known as the Workhouse. The city's top public safety official now calls the issues there “eye-opening" and says he’s looking into changes to alleviate growing safety concerns. Recently, three young men got into the facility through holes in the fencing and unintentionally locked themselves into an old cell. It’s been three weeks since that incident. Though it may seem humorous, police say it’s no laughing matter.   A spokesman told FOX 2 that city staff had been requested to repair the fencing last week. The same holes in the fences remain.    Highway with ‘Loneliest Road in America’ also runs through St. Louis region “That triggers some concerns for me,” said Alderman Tom Oldenburg of the incident, during Thursday’s meeting with the aldermanic Public Safety Committee.   He asked the Public Safety Director, Charles Coyle, what was being done about those concerns.Closi...

Wagner says Crisis Intervention Team training, also known as CIT, prevented a possible tragedy.“Social work is a part of our trade,” Wagner added. There are other examples, like this past Tuesday, when FOX 2 captured video of a St. Charles Police negotiation with a man in a Walgreens parking lot. It also ended peacefully, with no criminal charges.Last year, we featured a dramatic North County scene in which a woman stole a police car and crashed it.You could hear officers on the bodycam footage we obtained say, “It could've been worse.
