AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting an uptick in hospitalizations nationwide related to a new strain of COVID-19 -- and Austin Public Health are seeing similar upticks in case counts locally.Between Aug. 6 and Aug. 12, the CDC's COVID Data Tracker tool reported a 21.6% increase in hospitalizations throughout the United States. It comes as the latest COVID-19 strain Eris -- more formally referred to as EG. 5 -- emerged earlier this summer and became the dominant virus strain infecting people.What are local COVID-19 levels looking like in Austin?Janet Pichette serves as Austin Public Health's chief epidemiologist. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas French Bread has slowly but surely been on its way to recovery after a fire destroyed the bakery a year and a half ago. The Garden at Texas French Bread is now open daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a newsletter and social media posts from the restaurant. "Beginning today, we'll be open 7 days a week in the TFB Garden," the newsletter read in part. "I think our daytime breakfast & lunch service is a hidden gem — emphasis on the hidden part. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – According to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, three people connected with the Phinaliz Communications corporation in Otsego County were arrested last Thursday, August 24 on fraud charges. This was after they allegedly tried to steal over $1 million from the Medicaid program.The arrests were part of a multi-year joint investigation between several state, local and federal agencies. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany Police Department arrested Albert Lindh, 33, on Sunday, August 27. Lindh was charged with menacing in the second degree, one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. According to the police, they received reports of a person with a weapon in the area of Brevator Street and Western Avenue. FLORISSANT, Mo. -- There is a heavy police presence in the 6800 block of Parker Road. Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting after an attempted carjacking.Police say the suspect approached a woman in the parking lot of the strip mall Monday at around 11:30 a.m. and attempted to steal her car. He was able to take her keys, but she was able to stop him from stealing the vehicle, and the suspect walked away from the woman.Police later saw the suspect near the intersection of Parker Road and Partridge Run. When police approached, the suspect fired shots at an officer, striking his police cruiser. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect with a bullet.While waiting for an ambulance, the officer gave the suspect medical aid. The suspect has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
