From the San Jose Sharks’ perspective, there was nowhere to go but up after they were throttled by the Vancouver Canucks earlier this week. Now as they return to San Jose, that’s also true from an NHL standings standpoint. The Sharks had a one-goal lead in the second period Saturday but allowed three straight to the Calgary Flames in what became a 5-3 loss at the Saddledome, marking San Jose’s ninth consecutive defeat as it ended a three-game road trip.Logan Couture, Nico Sturm, and Martin Kaut all scored and Erik Karlsson had two assists as the Sharks fell to 19-39-15, with their .363 points percentage ranking as the worst in the NHL.Still, Saturday’s performance was markedly better than the one they gave Thursday when the Sharks barely showed up in what became a 7-2 loss to the Canucks.“What we talked about (Friday) is you can’t quit,” Sharks coach David Quinn said after Saturday’s game. “That’s probably the biggest insult you can any athlete. BEIJING (AP) — Honduras has cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan, the Latin American country announced Saturday, saying it recognizes “only one China in the world.”The announcement by Honduras’s foreign ministry posted on Twitter, and also reported by China’s CCTV, comes amid rising tensions between Beijing and the United States, including over China’s increasing assertiveness toward self-ruled Taiwan. The move leaves Taiwan recognized by only 13 sovereign states.“The government of the Republic of Honduras recognizes the existence of only one China in the world and that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government that represents all of China,” the ministry statement said.It added that “Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and as of today, the Honduran government has informed Taiwan the severance of diplomatic relations, pledging not to have any official relationship or contact with Taiwan.”Honduras is the ninth diplomatic ally t...Boutier 1st at Superstition Mountain as Jutanugarn struggles

GOLD CANYON, Ariz. (AP) — Celine Boutier of France had an eagle and six birdies in a round of 7-under 65 and moved atop the leaderboard when Moriya Jutanugarn of Thailand stumbled down the stretch in Saturday’s third round of the LPGA Drive on Championship.Boutier, a 29-year-old two-time tour winner, made an eagle 3 on the par-5 second hole, added two birdies that offset a bogey at the par-3 eighth. She played the back nine in 4 under for a 16-under 200 overall total and a one-stroke lead over three others heading into Sunday’s final round. If the opening three rounds of the tour’s first full-field event of the season are any indication, the finale should be a scramble. There are 17 golfers within three shots of the lead after nine players posted rounds of 7- to 9-under par in a birdie-filled Saturday.Jutanugarn (69), American Alison Lee (67) and South Korea’s Hae Ran Ryu (64) were tied for second at 15 under. Kingston City District 8 Councillor Jeff McLaren is seeking approval from council to be appointed to the development board of a new, soon to be incorporated non-profit housing co-operative, Limestone City Co-operative Housing. The co-operative housing units would allow more options for affordable housing in the city. There are no specific sites in mind as of yet, but if the organization becomes incorporated, it will then discuss future proceedings with council. In a news release put out by McLaren, he states why he believes housing co-operatives are beneficial for residents.“Co-ops require a minimum of volunteer time for the betterment of the co-op, which both encourages a sense of pride and community through self-governance and working toward a common cause, while also lowering ongoing operating costs,” he said. The decision will be made at the March 21 council meeting whether or not McLaren will be on the development board for the new group.Update as of March 2...Over $19,000 in fines issued throughout St. Patrick’s Day weekend
